Career success in the 21st century calls on creative intelligence, advanced technological skills and an entrepreneurial ability to integrate academic and professional knowledge. UTS is leading the development of future-focused learning experiences, research programs and innovation ecosystems that enable the creation and navigation of new ways of living and working, as well as preparing graduates for the workplace of today and the future.
Under UTS’ Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creative Intelligence (IECI) strategy, delivered by the IECI Unit, the university is also driving the development of new research expertise, skills and literacies, particularly around emerging technologies. A key focus is building flagship innovation partnerships with business and government that are characterised by new, knowledge-enabled models of business.
UTS is committed to exploring new opportunities for industry and stakeholder collaboration that support student entrepreneurship and innovation, and grow activity and achievement in these domains.
It is also empowering students to access to award-winning entrepreneurship programs, both within their formal degree studies and across extracurricular programs and commercial social ventures.
The Hatchery, for example, is a distinctive UTS enterprise designed to educate and launch the entrepreneurs – and intrapreneurs – of tomorrow. Within the Hatchery are a set of hybrid practitioner-led programs aimed at different stages of the entrepreneurial journey – Ideate, Accelerate, and International – designed with input from academics and industry leaders in fields spanning digital, creative, technology, media and more.
Hatchery Ideate provides the foundational tools for participants to develop their entrepreneurial mindsets, and ultimately, forge their own future through entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship. Hatchery Accelerate prepares early stage ventures founded/cofounded by UTS students/graduates for the next level of success as a business.
Meanwhile, Hatchery International provides UTS startups with opportunities to meet strategic partners in key regions to help launch their business into critical international markets.
The UTS campus is in the heart of Sydney’s creative precinct and alongside Sydney’s central business district. Over the next three years, the final phase of our City Campus Master Plan will deliver a state-of-the-art campus to meet the needs of 21st century students. The UTS Strategic Plan outlines our vision to be a world‑leading university of technology and provides a strong statement about the university’s aspirations for its third decade.
