Well Made Clothes
Courtney Sanders, editorial director of Catalogue and now Well Made Clothes, is a long-time culture writer, who loves fashion, but doesn’t love everything about the fashion industry. She was frustrated by the under-reporting of the dirty industry practices behind the shiny clothes, and also by the under-representation of the fashion labels which are creating well-made clothes and which treat the people who make the clothes, the environment, and us, the consumer, with respect. In mid-2015, Courtney applied for the Walkley’s Grant For Innovation in Journalism, sponsored by Google, and won! The Well Made Clothes project began.
Well Made Clothes is now four months old, and has been received incredibly well by the industry and customers, the latter of whom tell us Well Made Clothes is exactly what they’ve been looking for: a place which makes it easy to reflect their personal decisions in their shopping decisions. We’ve been covered by The New Zealand Herald, Broadsheet, Concrete Playground, Nest Together, and Slow Living, to name a few; have moderated a sold out panel discussion at Vivid Ideas, Killer Clothes: How To Stand Up To Fast Fashion; and have spoken on a panel about the fashion industry at Melbourne Spring Fashion Festival.
