Jane Needham has been a barrister at the New South Wales Bar since 1990 and was appointed senior counsel in 2004. She practises in succession, equity, real property, administrative law and revenue, and has appeared in inquests, inquiries and royal commissions including representing the Truth, Justice and Healing Council in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. She was a Deputy President and Divisional Head of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal.
Jane is recognised by Doyle’s Guide as a leading lawyer in succession and estate law, and has a national and international practice in that area. She was President of the NSW Bar Association from 2014-2015. During that time she had a particular interest in improving access to flexible practice for barristers. She has also overseen the NSW Bar’s work on gender equality and anti-bullying and harassment programmes. She is one of the NSW Bar Association’s Advocates for Change.
Jane was nominated as one of Westpac/Fairfax’s 100 Women of Influence in 2014, and was named Lawyers Weekly Senior Barrister of the Year in 2013, as well as being awarded Woman Barrister of the Year for NSW in 2015, and Australia in 2016.
