Founder & Chairman
Founder Sebastian Robertson is Chairman of the organisation (previously CEO of batyr from 2011 – 2015). Sebastian started batyr at aged 25 after experiencing the frustration and isolation of living silently with mental ill health while at university and recognised that it was time to open honest conversations about mental health with young people. He wanted to give young people a voice, the courage and conviction to share stories of triumph over mental illness in an attempt to ensure that all young Australians can look forward to better mental health.
Sebastian graduated from the Australian National University with a double degree in Economics and Commerce (Finance, Accounting and International Business) in 2009. He worked at General Electric (GE) on their Financial Management Program and in 2010 he was an Australian Youth Representative for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. In 2011 he was Sydney’s Social Entrepreneur of the Year and recently was awarded Young Alumnus of Year 2013 for the Australian National University.
Sebastian is also one of the founding Commissioners of the ‘Sydney Premier League’ squash and current national Treasurer for the ‘Australian Premier League’ Squash Competition – a social* squash league. In 2014, Sebastian was also chosen to be one of 11 participants from across the country to be a part of the inaugural National Mental Health Leaders Project, an initiative of the National Mental Health Commission and the Mental Health Council of Australia. *very social.
