Ally Watson is passionate about luring more women into coding. So much so she started the highly successful education program ‘Code Like A Girl’.
After experiencing first hand the barriers women face in the male dominated industry of tech, Ally Watson, a developer and Computer Science graduate co-founded the organisation dedicated to providing girls with the tools, knowledge and support to enter and flourish in the world of coding.
The organisation with a mission to spark change by inspiring a new generation of girls to acquire coding as a skill and to encourage more females to step into leadership roles. Her team’s motivation is to create innovative learning environments where every girl from any background feels included, inspired, supported and capable
Code Like a Girl run a series of tech-focused events and workshops around Australia; bringing together local talents and like-minded girls who are passionate about coding and technology to learn, connect and celebrate each other’s achievements. Through our initiative, we hope to spark change in the tech community; inspiring new generations of girls to acquire coding as a skill and encourage more women to step into leadership roles within the industry.
"What we’re doing is so much bigger than just teaching girls how to code. In Australia, the majority of new jobs are in ICT – an industry which currently very few women study, work in or stay in – Code Like a Girl’s work is to ensure women have an equal place in the technology-focused workforce of the future."
